About the Journal

Tartalo. An interdisciplinary journal about Myth and the Fantastic in the Arts is an academic peer reviewed online publication funded by Hevenday non-profit cultural association and edited by its "Beyond 'Tartalo: International Conference on Myth in the Arts' Knowledge Transfer to Society" project (TR42872).

The Tartalo journal is dedicated to the study and dissemination of the fantastic in the arts. It provides a platform for researchers, scholars, and practitioners to share original work exploring the intersections of myth, fantasy, and artistic expression across disciplines including literature, film, music, visual arts and performing arts.

Peer Review Process

All submissions to the Tartalo Journal undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process. Each manuscript is evaluated by at least two independent reviewers with expertise in the relevant field. The review process assesses originality, academic rigour, clarity and contribution to the field of fantastic arts studies. Authors receive detailed feedback to strengthen their work. The editorial board makes final publication decisions based on reviewer recommendations.

Open Access Policy

The Tartalo Journal follows an open access policy, making all published content freely available to readers worldwide. We believe that open access to academic research fosters the growth and dissemination of knowledge about the fantastic in the arts. All articles are published under a Creative Commons licence, allowing readers to read, download, share and cite the work, provided proper attribution is given.

For Authors – Submission

Authors are invited to submit original, unpublished manuscripts that contribute to the understanding of the fantastic in the arts. Submissions should be sent via email to:

Please include a cover letter with the manuscript, along with a short author biography and contact details.

Submission Guidelines

Manuscripts should follow MLA 9th edition formatting guidelines. Key requirements include:

  • Manuscripts should be between 5,000 and 7,000 words, including notes and references
  • Use 12pt Times New Roman font, double-spaced throughout
  • Include an abstract of 150–250 words and 5–7 keywords
  • All references must follow MLA 9th edition citation style
  • Include a separate title page with the author's name, affiliation and contact information
  • The main manuscript file should be anonymised for blind review
  • Download the Word template and apply it to your manuscript

Book Reviews

The Tartalo Journal welcomes book reviews of recent publications related to the fantastic in the arts. Reviews should be between 1,000 and 2,000 words and provide a critical assessment of the work. If you are interested in submitting a book review, please contact the editorial team at:
